Christian Men: How to Show Up Well on Your Dating Profile

In my experience, online dating can be equal parts hilarious, cringey, and surprisingly revealing - especially if you’re a Christian man trying to date with integrity, intention, and faith.

I

’ve seen it all: profiles that make me laugh, ones that make me scratch my head, and a few that make me wonder how people think anyone could connect with them.

But here’s the truth: your profile is your first impression, and how you show up online often reflects how you show up in life and relationships.

You get maybe 15 seconds to grab the attention of a potential partner - so use it well.

Put in the Effort

A half-hearted profile is a red flag. If you don’t take time to share about yourself - your faith, hobbies, passions - it signals you might not put effort into other areas that matter.

Here’s what I’ve seen (and laughed - and cringed - at):

  • The guy whose caption said “I’m funny and lighthearted”… but the photo looked like he was auditioning for a crime documentary.

  • The man who claimed he wanted a serious relationship… but spent his entire profile preaching to potential wife-converts.

  • Or the classic “Name, location, occupation - hope that’s enough to attract a woman.” Spoiler: it’s not.

Tips for a better profile:

  • Include 3–5 photos of you smiling and doing interesting things, not just fish selfies or gym mirror shots. Let people see life with you, not just you in front of a bathroom mirror.

  • Write a bio that shares 10–15 things about you - what excites you, hobbies, quirks, and faith highlights. Make it easy for someone to imagine a conversation with you.

  • Be honest and relatable, not just listing traits. Tell a story about your life and what it’s like to spend time with you.

Show Respect and Integrity

How you communicate online matters as much as your profile itself. Respond kindly to messages, even if you’re not interested. A simple note like:

“Hey Steve, thanks for reaching out. However I’m looking for someone close to Melbourne and so I’m not interested in anything further! All the best with your search.”

…takes seconds but shows maturity, respect, and character.

Take Action

Once your profile is polished, it’s time to reach out, say hello, and start conversations. Take small risks, be intentional, and remember: dating is about connection, kindness, and faith in action.

Don’t stress over a delayed reply or small awkward moments - the goal is to practice courage, integrity, and honesty in a culture that often doesn’t.

Bottom line: Your dating profile is more than a few photos and a paragraph of text — it’s a snapshot of your life, values, and heart. Make it reflect who you really are, own the cringe and laughs from past attempts, and step into conversations that might lead to meaningful connections.
